988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
We are here to listen to you! Call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to talk to one of our trained workers who provide a safe space to talk about all sorts of feelings and problems including, depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, loneliness, interpersonal problems and financial issues. All calls are free and confidential. We are here to listen and talk with you whenever you need help the most.
The Support Hotline is part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network at 988. This is a national lifeline, locally answered by Portage Path Behavioral Health for Summit and Lake counties.

Emergency Evaluation, Treatment and Referral
Individuals arriving at Portage Path Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) in a crisis are evaluated in the Emergency Evaluation (EE) unit by a registered nurse, an emergency clinician, and a psychiatrist. The team works together to gather collateral information, provide crisis intervention and use medications, if necessary. Individuals are then referred to outpatient services, a crisis stabilization unit, inpatient hospitals or specialized service providers. Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU)
CSU is a voluntary sixteen bed unit which provides a structured, short-term residential environment where individuals can be monitored and receive psychiatric treatment. The goal of the CSU is to manage the crisis in the most effective manner. The individual is then referred to a less restrictive outpatient service where they can continue on their treatment path and reach their recovery goals.

Summit County Outreach Team (SCOUT)
The SCOUT Program is a partnership with the City of Akron and the County of Summit ADM Board. The SCOUT team is a clinician from Portage Path Behavioral Health, an Akron City Fire/EMS, and an Akron City Police Officer who are dispatched by 911. They respond to calls in Akron where mental health is a concern, but the individual is not a danger to themself or others.This team is on-call Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Probate
The Portage Path crisis team works in collaboration with the Summit County Probate Court. Clinical staff from Portage Path complete probate investigations within the community. This process assists individuals in receiving treatment when the individual generally does not believe they are in need of behavioral health services but appear to others to be in a crisis. Portage Path Behavioral Health’s high quality services are partially paid for through insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, or under contract with the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board – County of Summit ADM Board. Enhanced services and innovation are funded through private donations from individuals, companies, and foundations who care about the community.
All of our services and facilities are accredited by the Joint Commission, a nationally recognized organization that accredits and certifies health care organizations and programs in the United States.
Founded in 1971 as a small, regional provider of behavioral health care, Portage Path has grown to three outpatient locations and an emergency facility with services available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
